Original WW1 (1917) British Trench Map (SHEET 51B SW - Edition 5A - Trench Corrections to 25/5/17). It focuses on a key stretch of the Hindenburg Line yet appears to show a state of confusion in the wake of The Battle of Arras. A number of flanking operations have led to an important note printed in the top margin which states.... "Trenches shown are not only German, but include up to about 200 yards within our front line on 27-5-17". As a result, using this map on the ground would have been very confusing as all the trenches shown are printed in red ink. The map covers several well known battlefield locations such as Beaurains, Mercatel, Neuville Vitasse. Hendecourt, Fontaine les Croisilles, Vis en Artois, Cherisy, Inchy en Artois, Wancourt etc.

Please see my other WW1 maps of this area for rarer variants which include Enemy Organisation and Artillery Positions information. It bears a museum stamp, with handwritten archive serial number, and is in excellent condition as explained below... Each item was held in the museum's duplicate archives and deemed surplus. Almost all have IWM stock numbers or stamps etc and many have been linen backed for long term conservation and storage purposes.

Significant numbers were unused surplus stock when originally transferred to the museum and have never even been folded. As such, many of these original WW1 maps are in'time capsule' condition, and there are numerous'Secret' or'Confidential' maps relating to major battles amongst them. I will be working my way through the collection in due course. This is fully tracked and requires a signature on receipt.

International parcels will be fully tracked. The item "WW1 (1917) HINDENBURG LINE POST BATTLE of ARRAS CONFUSION (BULLECOURT etc)" is in sale since Monday, November 23, 2020.
