Post 1902 Yorkshire Deputy Lord Lieutenant Uniform
Post 1902 Yorkshire Deputy Lord Lieutenant Uniform This is an excellent example of a British Deputy Lord Lieutenant uniform set comprised of a tunic, trousers and a pair of knee high boots. Currently a ceremonial position awarded for good citizenship, historically this was the branch of the military responsible for rousing the county militia. During the time of use there would have been as few as three Lord Lieutenants per county with thirty to forty Deputy Lord Lieutenants each. These would have been responsible for administration and organisation of the County Associations and of territorial forces post 1907.

The red tunic is made of fine wool and is lined with quilted brown and non-quilted cream coloured silk. The collar, braid and cuffs are silver braid of the militia/volunteers, adorned on its twisted silver bullion shoulder boards with the white rose of Yorkshire. The tunic comes with all the original black painted brass buttons at the front, collar and tail.

The buttons are the crown and wreath of the Lord Lieutenants. All buttons are marked on the reverse with the manufacturers stamp PITT & Co. The trousers are made of black coloured wool with two white stripes and silk lining. The boots are a pair of medium to large knee high boots.

While there are signs of wear the leather is still supple and glossy. The boots have retained their steel plate on the heel, to allow for the proper snap sound when coming to attention. They have'Goudie' written on the inside in black ink.

The set comes with a red leather strap decorated with silver braid and a silver buckle. The tunic stand is not included. Dimensions The length of the tunic is 31 inches (79 cm) long at the rear. The distance between the armpits is 19.5 inches (49.5 cm). From shoulder tip to shoulder tip it measures 17.5 inches (44.5 cm). The outside sleeve is 23 inches (58 cm).

The waist measures 20.5 inches (52 cm). The diameter of the collar is 5 inches (13 cm). The trousers are 45 inches (115 cm) long at the outer seam.

The boots are 12 inches (30 cm) from heel to toe. The boots are 18.75 inches (47.5 cm) from heel to cuff. It weighs 4.8 Kg. The uniform is in an overall good condition for its age with minimal wear.

The buttons have tarnished slightly. The silver braids and trim is in good condition but slightly dulled. The lining has some amount of wear stains. The leather strap on the right shoulder is worn and frayed.

The trousers remain in very good clean condition with the boots leather straps intact. For further details and condition see images. The item "Post 1902 Yorkshire Deputy Lord Lieutenant Uniform" is in sale since Friday, November 18, 2016.
