This consisted splashing, immersing of dipping in vinegar, also piercing with a chisel to ensure that the interior of the letter was also disinfected. Discolouration and four chisel marks from this process are clearly visible. WATERFORD CDS'WATERFORD/10/JY/1831', s/l t/s'PONT BEAUVOISIN', red s/l'ANGLETTERE' and PAID tombstone'F/PAID/15JY15/1831'.
